At Anubhuti, we believe that mental health is not the responsibility of any single individual. Addressing mental health needs requires a collective, society-wide approach, where accountability extends far beyond the health system and permeates every pillar of democracy. True mental dignity for all especially for communities historically subjected to injustice can only be achieved when every stakeholder acts in alignment with the principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution.

In a recent series of engagements, Deepa Pawar articulated the concept of #MentalJustice, emphasizing that mental health intersects with dignity, self-expression, participation, and liberty. She underscored that the Constitution serves as a blueprint for safeguarding the mental well-being of not just individuals but entire communities. A purely clinical approach is insufficient for communities that have endured historical oppression; instead, understanding and action must be embedded in social, legal, and institutional frameworks.

Over the past month, in observance of #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, #WorldMentalHealthDay, and #MentalHealthMonth, Anubhuti has engaged a diverse set of stakeholders across Thane:

  • Public transport staff including bus drivers and conductors
  • Sanitation workers
  • Nurses and health professionals at Thane Civil Hospital
  • Lawyers and officials at Kalyan Additional District Court and Sessions Court (Civil and Criminal)

These sessions provide participants with accessible, practical understanding of mental health, helping them see its relevance in both their personal lives and professional responsibilities. By connecting knowledge of mental health to their roles, participants gain tools to uphold the mental dignity of the people and communities they serve.

Through this multi-sectoral approach, Anubhuti continues to strengthen the movement for mental justice, demonstrating that mental health is not just a clinical concern but a fundamental right and collective responsibility, rooted in social equity, dignity, and constitutional values.
